Beautiful painting in good colors and in neo-impressionist brush stroke.
Detroy owned a house in Agay on the Côte d’Azur. The present subject was most likely created around Agay or at Menton, which is very well known for the cultivation of citrus fruits. The painting is a powerful work in unique painting technique. It is characterized by pasty color application and the contrast of pastel colors with the strong coloring of the oranges.

Following the École des Beaux-Arts Léon Detroy dedicated himself to plein air painting and was drawn into the region of the Creuse in the Limousin.

There he learned about the poet Maurice Rollinat in Fresselines Claude Monet to know.

Bonnard, Vuillard and Guillaumin were also soon common friends.

Detroy lived alternately in Agay, in Gargilesse and Crozant. This small town in the center of the region of the Creuse gave the group of Impressionist painters working there his name: École de Crozant.

Léon Detroy, together with Armand Guillaumin (1841 - 1927) the main representatives of this school, is often called the honorary title "Maître de Crozant".
